Miroir Entre Deux Mers
Une Pyramide
2023, Reef Island Bahrain - Plot 1&2
A pyramid, a mirror between two seas: The Kingdom of Bahrain or Kingdom of the Two Seas is defined first by its geography, as its name indicates. A geography summed up by the tetralogy oil/desert/salt water, fresh water|wind. Bahrain has been adapting its projects to climatic, geopolitical and economic developments allows it to be resilient but also in line with changes in demand, particularly in residential and tourist areas.
A highly symbolic project: Our project takes up the strong elements of the geography and history of Bahrain. Its location, on an island, and therefore “between two seas” like the Kingdom of Bahrain, is already symbolic in itself. Quite naturally, it will take the form of a large hollowed-out vessel, a large liner surrounded by water, both protective and open to its environment.
But it is also symbolic of the desert: we can see it as an inverted pyramid, and we think of the Pyramids of Egypt, Gateways to the desert. In contrary to Egypt’s pyramids, a symbol of death, this pyramid is brought to life. But this pyramid is reflected in the water, giving the feeling of two floating pyramids joined by the green forest that constitutes the canopy. It is the desert associated with the oasis. And this oasis can also be seen in the presence of private swimming pools and garden fountains.

DIAGRAMS & MODELS
A project that combines transformation with adaptation. Through its form, its location and its power, the project creates a Landmark in a landscape that was until then quite generic.
It becomes a signal of recognition, a landmark on the island. It thus helps to transform it and give it a new and strong personality. The maritime reference. But it is also an adaptation project, designed to moderate the violence of the climate, hydrate the qaws and dry out the shamal.

Its pyramidal structure protects from the sun, captures humidity creating freshness and tempering the temperature. The ground floor on stilts is a vast garden. The climate is therefore tempered threefold: by the morphology of the building and the spatial organization of its volumes, by the presence of water and by the landscaping.

DRAWINGS
Here everything is “luxury, calm and pleasure”, Charles Baudelaire's quote is perfectly suited here. The apartments are luxurious in the comfort they offer, whether it concerns the organization of parking, access to the apartment, interior or services offered. They also offer a wide variety of typologies: housing on large overhangs, housing protected by eaves, real intimate houses surrounded by greenery.
Calm and privacy are privileged: each entrance is personal and despite the density, the private spaces, terraces, swimming pools, gardens are perfectly protected from view. Likewise, the quality and robustness of the materials guarantee the absence of noise pollution.
Voluptuousness finally brought by the permanent contrasts which are offered to each resident: Contrast of landscapes between the distance: the infinity of the sea, and the near: the luxuriant and varied vegetation within reach, Contrast of materials and colors, Contrast of textures between water, concrete, earth, Contrast of shadows and lights. It is a project adapted to the demands of demanding clients, favoring luxury, comfort and security.
