SC Villa
2010-2012, Akoura Lebanon
Clad in local stone mounted on concrete walls, SC Villa boasts an outer skin that looks as if it’s been torn from the mountain on which it was built.
SC Villa covers 450sqm and is located in the mountains, 1,200 meters above sea level. Dramatically perched on a cliff’s edge, the house has an entirely open façade that overlooks the steep drop. Inside, the sensation of looking upward is emphasized, with surrounding peaks framed by the view to erase all visual connection with the ground. A large central patio concentrates these tensions and amplifies the surroundings.

Although it is inaudible when outside the house, the sound of a nearby brook can be heard quite clearly inside. The house was developed around the idea of a sounding board, as a volume that somehow enlarges space and sound. Its seeming proximity to the sky and clouds gives it an unreal, otherworldly feeling, as if it emerged from the mountain itself.
